Rare Set of Twelve Early 19th Century Empire Dining Chairs in Mahogany, Inlaid Brass and Velvet

€26,400.00

This is a very large and rare set of twelve elegant dining chairs from the (late) ‘empire’ / ‘restoration’ period - early 19th century (1810-1840).

They feature a wonderful and highly elegant shape with their rounded backrests and feet, creating a very dynamic stance and a playfulness not often found in antique furniture. Although around two hundred years old, these chairs still seem fresh and timeless.

Very high quality chairs with wonderful details like the delicately inlaid brass, the curved backs and the stylish upholstery in olive green velvet.

Finding such a large quantity of these highly original and museum quality chairs is a rare event and a wonderful opportunity to purchase them. Would be wonderful in a large dining room of a stately home, chateau or mansion.

These were bought by the previous owner back in the 1960s at an important antiques fair - predating the famous TEFAF fair - and originally came from a ‘regentenkamer’ or a ‘governor's room’ in Delft, The Netherlands.

The set comes in a very good condition with a few marks and spots due to age and use. A few chairs show some missing brass inlay work in the front feet. Please note the velvet upholstery is overall in good condition, but dates back to the 1960s.

Dimensions: W. 55  x D. 57 x H. 88 cm  (SH. 47 cm)
